December 2011
It’s quite
disturbing how quickly this year has flown and what a year it has been! For a start Applebeat
Records are now based in Red Eye Studios in Clydebank near Glasgow. For another thing we will be signing three
new artists to the roster. We are very
excited about this here at Apple HQ. More on this very soon.
Our website will be getting the overhaul
treatment before the summer, so we’ve got our thinking caps on for that!
We’d also like to wish you all a happy, peaceful and prosperous 2012! Have a good one!
April 2011
Wow! Have we really been that busy for so
long! Loads of live dates and new
recordings have unfortunately kept us offline, but we’re back now to bring you
up to speed.
George
Burton has been producing the new Greenmantle album ‘Two Hats’ and you can find
out lots of information about both band and album here
The album was recorded at GA Studios and Abbey Road. It was roughly a year in production but it
was well worth the wait.
“After
I’d recorded a version of Greenmantle’s ‘Sailing Homeward Bound’ a while ago,
the band liked it and asked me if I’d produce their first new work in nearly
forty years. I was honoured to do so and
it was a tremendous pleasure working with them.
Great songwriting combined with traditional writing values – you just
can’t lose really. I urge you all to
have a listen, it’s great!”
George Burton, March 2011.
In
Beatcomber news now, a new website is currently under construction for the
first time! The site isn’t live yet, but
will come online really soon. There’s a
ton of information on there about the band, including exclusive video,
photographs and so on. Musically, an
archive section will bring to light some really rare material from the North’s
Premier Beat sensation including (all going well) a version of John Lennon’s
unused song, ‘Now and Then’. Further,
there will be in depth series of articles about the band’s history. All good things.
That’s
about it for now and we promise not to go away for so long next time!

It's been a while since the site has been updated and our apologies for
that! It has however been incredibly busy over the summer
with live shows and studio work. The entire back catalogue has been
revamped and cleaned up for a re-launch on digital services at the
end of October. These will include the fabled new albums - promise!
Elsewhere, George Burton is currently in the studio producing a new album
for seventies group Greenmantle. All sounding good and everyone seems to
be having a great time in the studio! Must be something in the water
then!
We won't leave it so long until next time! All the best
for now.
Please note that our contact page has been suspended temporarily due to scourge of spam and abuse which just seems to be part and parcel of the online world these days. Please be assured that a new contact page will be up and running soon. Our apologies.
January, 2009
Happy New Year to one and all from everyone here at Applebeat HQ! It's
been busy in the studio for both The Beatcombers
and George Burton. George has been working on radio shows for Radio Six
International and Sub City Radio with his Record
Session which has been a great success for him and giving him a well deserved
break from writing on a full time basis. The
Beatcombers welcome back original (and best) guitarist, Mark Cavana to complete the sessions for the album, which just
seems to be taking
an age! The Beatcomber line has been all over the place and that is the
main reason for the delay. However, I have to say that
the material I've heard in the studio is without doubt, the best they've ever
done, so I repeat, hang in there!
We have several projects up our sleeves for this year coming including a full
revamp of the web site, the two new albums and hopefully
some new artists to unveil.
Here's to a great year ahead!
September, 2008
Session's still continue for the new Beatcomber project at a pace. Hang
tight beat fans! - we've heard
some of the results and we know you're gonna love em!
Meanwhile, George Burton is is featured on backing
vocals and guitar on the song "If You Don't Have Love" on Kenny
Herbert and Rab Howat's
great new album "A Wednesday Story" produced by David Paton. A
limited run
was produced for the boys annual trip to Liverpool in
August whilst a full release is scheduled for
the end of the year.
In other news, Applebeat is currently changing digital distributors, so in the
meantime please use
the shop to purchase your favourite tracks.
See you soon.
June, 2008
Things now hotting up here
at Applebeat with the planned releases of George Burton's "Studio
Two" album. George played
live with Kenny Herbert and Rab Howat
at The Voodoo Room's in Edinburgh. "I really enjoyed playing that
show, the
audience were great and it's always a pleasure to be on stage with Kenny, Rab, Roy and Martin. They just get up and do
do it and it's always first class!" George
has also just finished recording a live session for John Cavanagh's Soundwave
programme. See here
and there for further details of
programme times.
Sessions are still ongoing for The Beatcomber's new album with guitars and vocals taking up
the studio time. Tentative
release dates are in the pipeline for both new albums looking like a digital
release for Studio Two towards the end of July,
physical release to follow into August. The untitled (as yet) Beatcomber
album will see the light of day at the end of
August.
May. 2008
George Burton will be making a guest appearance with friends Kenny Herbert and Rab Howat's show at the Voodoo Rooms
in Edinburgh on June 1. George will also be appearing on John Cavanagh's Soundwave radio
show on June 5, where he will
will be previewing the new album Studio Two and playing an acoustic set
in session. Check out the link above for details.
Meanwhile work continues at a pace on the new Beatcomber album. The
Beatcombers My Space site
has been
updated with some additional photos from the archives.
April, 2008
George Burton's album Studio Two has now been completed following final
mastering at Abbey Road on 23 of the
month. Mastering was handled by Steve Rooke.
We're very excited here at Applebeat with the results. The album
now goes through the final design process for the sleeve before pressing.
Release dates haven't been finalised but
there should be some movement on this by the end of May. The
Beatcombers are also very close to completion on their
project and again, there should be some more definite news for release details
by the end of May.
February, 2008
Been a busy old time here at Applebeat HQ. The
Beatcombers new album is shaping up nicely and isn't far away now
mixing and mastering. Both their album and George Burton's album should
be ready for release in June. George's "Studio
Two" project will see completion at Abbey Road where it was
recorded. Further, there should be some news of some radio
appearances for both the Beatcombers and George coming this way soon.
January, 2008
It's been a while!
